Message How much you'll save really depeneds on what type of build you plan to do, and how much work you can do on your own.

I have had VG blocks hone and cleaned for as little as $300. If you are planning on boring and putting in larger pistons, plan on spending a bit more at the machine shop you drop your block off to.

Taking the engine apart is easy, just bag and label EVERYTHING! Hopefully you can tear the engine down to the bare block properly and have it machined at a good shop. From there it's as easy as putting it all back together with the proper specs and torques.

It'll be time consuming, but in the end it's worth it. Places will charge you up to $1500 just to pull your engine from the car, and you can save all of that if you do it yourself.
